I just got a reply back when trying to get verification of some stuff on my credit report and they said the following:
We were unable to honor your recent request because you did not provide sufficient identification for us to verify your identity. Please read the info below.
The FCRA states "A consumer credit reporting company shall require as a condition of disclosure that the consumer furnish proper identification;" therefore, if you write to us, we must require all of the following information in order to process your requests: Full name, including middle name; current mailing address; social security number; date of birth; and complete address for the past two years. In addition, enclose one copy of a government issued idenification card, such as a drivers lisence, state or military id card, etc, AND one copy of a utility bill, bank or insurance statement, etc. Make sure copies are legible.
Okay I don't feel comfortable sending this sort of stuff expecially copies of my DL in the mail when it could be lost. Is this really legal?
