Is this normal procedure?

I am buying a new Honda and have already arranged financing through a bank, not Honda.  The salesman at Honda still wants to run my credit and get references even though I made it clear to him that I have a check already and am not financing the car with them  He said he has to fill out the same form for everyone and run your credit regardless.

Go to another dealership. He is just trying to get a commission off of you using his finance company. Now, if you want to take the chance and let them shop you around for a better rate.. that is up to you. Smiley Happy

Regardless of what their procedure is, I wouldn't allow them to run a credit check if you don't need financing from them.  Why take the extra inquiry hit?   I'm sure there are other Honda dealers who would be more than happy to do it your way.

Re: Is this normal procedure?

Did you do the capital one blank check program check? We used this as the dealership tried to say well let us pull you credit and see if we can get you a better rate. We said no and went to leave the dealership and then they were more then happy to take our check.

yeah they do that because they get a back ended percentage of the interest rate.

Re: Is this normal procedure?

I spoke with him a little while ago and the conversation was going nicely until he said he had to fill out a form and needed our ss# and such.  I told him I don't want another credit check run and that I already have financing.  He started getting a bit impatient and said he's been doing this for 20 some years and he has to fill out the same form for everybody whether you're financing with them or not.

I just called the finance manager (only got his voicemail) and said if this is their policy, I'm taking my business elsewhere.

How did that go with using that preapproved check?  Did you have to wait for the check to be paid?  Did they give you any problems with it?

Re: Is this normal procedure?

It was the easiest car buying experiance ever and the fastest once we choose what we wanted. They sent us the check and we could write it for an amount not to exceed $29,000. We pre approved with guidelines as to it had to be newer than a certain year and not over 75,000 miles and couldnt be a daewoo. We wrote the check out to the dealership we choose to purchase from and they cashed it and then capital one got with them to get the onfo on the car vin# and milage and stuff and then the loan was set up a few days later and they called us and let us pick the due date. we got a pretty good deal on the car as well cause it was like we were paying cash.  the car was sticker $28,000 and we walked out $22,000 after tax title and licence it was a 2006 and we bought it in nov 06 so they were trying to get rid of the 06 models though.

Re: Is this normal procedure?

Did the dealership have to wait a couple of days for the check to be paid before you got the car?
