Is this true?

I received a response to a GW ltr I sent out several weeks ago to one of my CC and here was their response: "Altering the information that was reported to the credit bureau would be a violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act." I had asked if they'd be kind enough to change two late payments back in 2005 since I had paid on time thereafter and up until now. Is that true? They cannot 'alter' the information? I thought they could...

Re: Is this true?

Nope- not true. What they should say is, "Going out of our way to do something for you that doesn't add to our bottom line is against company policy."

Re: Is this true?

I received the same response back last week from a GW letter I sent out.  Can someone tell me if there is another step I can take.

Thanks!

Re: Is this true?

Send it back with a copy of their letter and tell them that you talked to the FTC and it was news to them and could they pretty please tell you what part of the FCRA they are referring to...that should an interesting letter. Also make sure and send it CMRRR. Kevin

Re: Is this true?

Yeah - if at first you don't succeed...well- you know.
I sent 5 GWs on June 25 - one item was deleted. So today I sent out 4 - "just following up!" GWs. It only cost 41 cents, an enevelope and some ink, so what the heck!

Re: Is this true?

Ok thanks everyone! I will do as suggested by writing back again and see if that works. This sure is a pain!
