I am unable to receive my credit reports on annualcreditreport.com because they cannot verify my identity. I tried it for the first time ever in June last year and had the same problem. I sent letters with identifying information etc. to the 3 bureaus and ended up receiving my reports in the mail. I know some of the issue stems from my SSN. Apparently there used to be some way to match your SSN with your date of birth and they stopped doing that a few years back (my SSN is only 4 years old). At least that's what the SSA told me over the phone (I called because all my credit reports say that my SSN cannot be verified and I have to check with the SSA).
The part that really confuses me is that none of my personal information, address etc. has changed since last year and I was told that I should be fine requesting my reports in the future because I verified my identity in the past. Do they keep any of your information on file or do I have to send identifying information via mail every time I want to get my credit reports? It is also interesting that they are somehow able to verify my identity if I pay for the reports on their websites. It is the same with all 3 credit bureaus. Do they say they cannot verify your identity so they can rip you off?

Just request your yearly freebies by mail and have them delivered by mail. Send copy of DL and proof of current address (util or CC stmt). As far as them keeping Identifying info I dont think they do but I could be wrong.

+1 the paper credit report is more detailed also.
Thank you. I guess I will have to request the reports via mail. I tried to do it online because it is much easier than having to send out 3 letters with copies of ID and bills.
