JDB Questions-Am flat out curious

Apologizing in advance but I just have to ask these two questions.

How/why is it LEGAL for collectors/law firms to check OUR credit and pick away, it's supposed to be PRIVATE

AND, if an account is SOLD to a JDB, how do they get to add a pile of new fees, etc. when they only paid about $10.00 for the account?

Is this all really because we have NOT spoken up loud enough yet?

Thank you - I really look forward to hearing others' opinions because it frustrates the hell out of me and I'd like to see them stopped - it's all over the internet that they do this, but nobody stops them.

When you say "check OUR credit and pick away", are you asking about soft pulls of your CRs? They can do that in accordance with permissible purpose in Section 604 of the FCRA.

As for the piling on of fees, well, they can ask. Heck, they can bring a lawsuit against you for a debt from 1985. Might be beyond SOL, but that's why you have to answer the summons--so they don't get a DJ.

Re: JDB Questions-Am flat out curious

Noah, thanks...I had answered the one summons but they filed a "non-response" and got an auto judgement, wiped out my bank account.  I was p.o. when I called the courthouse to find out how they were able to do this...the last one I received and did NOT have to sign for, I responded to as well via certified mail...but these companies can lie anyway and file this type of paperwork...how the heck do we protect ourselves?  Or, do we just have to find the money to sue them?

From what I understand we can only do that within one year, or maybe that was to sue that company.  I'll check out CIC

Thanks!
