Judgment

I just pulled all 3 of my CR's through BOA. I was shocked to see a judgment on my report with EX and TU. I was never contacted about owing money to this hospital (it is obviously a medical bill). It says it was filed in reported 1/2004 for $1623.00 . I tried calling the county records department but no one had information about it and couldn't refer me to anyone else. I am not really sure where to go from here. Should I dispute it? EX says it is a judgment, TU says civil judgment, does that make a difference? My Lease is almost up on my car so it is imperative I fix whatever I can as soon as possible.

Re: Judgment

Hi bizz0976,

Is there any more information on the report, like a docket number, the jurisdiction where the case was filed, or who won the judgement?

Have you contacted the courthouse or just the county records department?  The county records department may not have that information, but the courthouse will.

If neither the courthouse or the county records has any information, try to gett a letter from them indicating that fact.

I would try disputing it - you have nothing to lose.  If you got the letter from the courthouse or county records indicating that there's no record of this, send the CRAs a copy of this letter as your evidence that this entry is potentially bogus.

However, the CRA has 30 days to investigate, so you may still have to wait until you get a result.

I know that your main priority is getting your report cleaned up for the car lease/loan right now.  However, I would strongly advise you to investigate this judgement.   You don't want to get a surprise when your bank account is frozen and/or your wages have been garnished (if you live in a state that allows wage garnishment to satisfy legal judgements).

Re: Judgment

Hi,

Last week i was able to get a judgement removed from my wife's report.  It was an account from 1989 that her dad used her SS# to open.  When i contacted the agency they said they keep re-newing it and we would have to pay.  I disputed this through EQ stating the account is not her's and her father is deceased now.  They removed it and her FICO for EQ jumped from 690 to 729.  It was only being reported through EQ

I would definetly reccommend disputing this information first.

Good luck.

Re: Judgment

I do have the docket information. I researched it onlne as well as calling the county courthouse. I worked on tracking the OC down to no avail as well.  What happens if I dispute it? How long will this last on my CR?

call the hospital and get the address for accounting. Send a letter to them asking about it. IF they have no records.....dispute it with all CRAs that show    NOT MINE

The reason I say write the hosp.   they will answer you on letterhead & if they say no record  you may need it to prove that it isn't yours.

Be ready to MOV  if it is verified.
