Late Payment Effects

Had a 6.5 yr old 30 day late removed, TU score raised 22 points. This proves even a 30 day late will effect you for the whole 7 yrs.. There was debate because of a website that said it would not hurt after 2 yrs? I think it said..

I knew that was BS lol

The exact effect any action will have on a score is tough to know.

The recency of any negative item is one of the most heavily weighted factors within the most heavily weighted category of scoring — payment history — amounting to 35 percent of your score. The longer the time since the negative, the less impact it will have, and the higher your score will go.

A single 30 day late will lose much of it's sting after a year or two so but I don't think anyone can say definitively (IMO) that it won't have some impact for a longer period. Your score rise could have been because of another factor but it's impossible to know.

In any case congratulations on that 22 points!

Re: Late Payment Effects

I'm fairly sure that was all from the late payment. Last update was 4 days prior.

Thanks!
