Late Payments

I have two credit cards, Bank of America and Capital One with $700 and $750 resp. I never missed payments until few months back when my economical condition got severly bad. I was 30 days overdue on Capital One and 60 days on Bank of America. For the past 4 years those are the only payments I've missed. Can i write to them requesting to remove them from my credit report? Will they agree? What is the address I write to.

Re: Late Payments

Yes, it would certainly be worth your time to try to get the late payments removed. If these were your only lates, and as you stated your payment history was otherwise perfect, then you might have success. I would try calling them first, and explaining your situation ~ if that doesn't work then ask them what address you should use to send a GW letter. Many times people just use the addresses on their CRs as a starting place. Good luck !

Re: Late Payments

A Goodwill letter is a request to a creditor to remove or update previously reported negative information, such as late payments, etc... I'd suggest that you take a look at this post, it has several good threads on Goodwill, especially the Goodwill primer..... http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/General-Credit-Topics/Frequently-Requested-Threads/m-p/10675

Re: Late Payments

I would definitely try calling, as pizzadude said.

My DGF had this situation happen to her and I explained that since it was her first time, she should call them and see if they could remove the mark from her report.

She looked at me like I was insane, but tried it, lo and behold, they removed it.

If the call doesn't work, then send out some GW letters, as previously suggested.

Good luck.

Re: Late Payments

Thank you all. I'll definately give a try. When I call them, do I explain everything to the operator or should I ask them to transfer the call to any higher position personnels?

Re: Late Payments

Requests for their good-will deletion of prior baddies are, by their nature, discretionary.

As with any organization, moving at least into, and preferably up, the management chain will put the issue on the desk of one authorized to exercise discretion.

Non-management personnel are usually unlikely to exercise much discretion.

Re: Late Payments

Re: Late Payments

Well thank you all for the help. Yes, I contacted both the bank companies today. Bank of America did not agree to remove my late payment. Capital one did. I guess I will have to send a GW letter to BofA. Thank you all for your help once again.
