Lets talk about this temporary score boost from disputing.

So is this due to the items in dispute not counting against your score? What is the time period for this? I disputed a few items with EX, all but one was verified, it is still under investigation. 7-4-08 EX 646 7-15-08 EX 683. Is that much of a temporary boost possible from disputing? I hope that's not the case, I am hoping my score will stay in this area! I have been OCD about paying everything as soon as the statement cuts. I have 4 sub prime CC and an auto loan with Chase. NEVER LATE! I really hope my score is starting to reflect that. Ok with that being said, someone feel free to crush my dreams!

I don't know if this crushes your dreams or not, but AFAIK, merely disputing items does NOT affect your FICO. I've been told oodles of time that disputed items are still factored into your FICO.

Hope that's actually what you were hoping for!! Smiley Happy

Yes, it is true that some items are removed from scoring while in dispute. This can cause a score change(in either direction). If the items are deleted as a result of the dispute, the score remains. If the items remain after the dispute, your score goes back to where it was to begin with, unless something major was changed on the account that will affect your score(more lates added, lates removed, status change to something worse, etc)

What did you dispute?

Re: Lets talk about this temporary score boost from disputing.

Sidewinder; against the better advice of this forum I disputed some very old collections. All will age off by 6/2009 leaving just a repo which I seriously doubt has any influence on my score at this point. Even that is due to delete 9/2009. I wish I would have acquired some of the info I have read here about disputing, I would not have done it. The collections are accurate for the most part, I do not agree with the dates, however, I have no proof to back it up. I just want ASSET gone sooo bad, they are hitting my EX with 30 90 day lates. There was also HSBC and GEMB reporting a charge off for the same account, that was cleared. Everything I disputed has verified and will remain on record, with the exception of one collection for $5962. (still under investigation.) So I am wondering if the others have been factored back into my score since they verified.???

Re: Lets talk about this temporary score boost from disputing.

Collection accounts reported by CA under the "collection" section of your report and PR are not excluded from scoring when you dispute them.

TL reported by the OC are excluded from scoring while disputed.

It is my understanding that once an account is "verified" , it is put back into scoring, if it was removed.

In my case, tu reports that way, collections under the collection section. EX and EQ show most collections under the account section. I think this in itself hurting my score just because fico is treating collection like an account. Should the CRA change this?????

It happens!  I disputed an old collection.  It was paid but still showed as late and opened.  When they verified they updated it "Closed and Paid" my score went up 2 weeks ago by 91 points!!!  Meanswhile I received an email they took off 2 negative tradelines and I'm waiting to know my score next month!

Sidewineder, I misread your reply. So if a CA is reported under the account section, does that still apply? Are they still factored into your score during the dispute?

Re: Lets talk about this temporary score boost from disputing.

Slightly off topic but related. Disputes can affect a score after completed in some very rare cases. When a closed and $0 bal account is "verified" it can have a positive affect or negative affect. I have seen it personally. Like a toggle switch each time the same account is verified score can bounce up and down. Odd, very odd. Score Watch will even identify these mood swings and identify cause. Knowing what account will do this and why I am not sure of. My thought was even if you get a boost it is only short lived. I'm guessing it is a +/- 7 points. Something like that. I might do some research on this to better identify which accounts do this and why. Not all of them do even if they look the same.

If listed as a TL- a CA is not counted in scoring during a dispute.
