Hey Guys,
I'm fairly new to the credit game and just established it within the past year. I am totally confused and don't know what to do about what I just discovered. I made my first payment on my student loans last month on 7/30. My loans are still deferred but I figured I'd get a head start so I made a $600 payment. My student loan servicer (Great Lakes) reported my payment on the last day of the month which was 7/31. Just like the myFICO simulator predicted, all my scores raised by 15 points across the 3 bureaus for the payment. Last week I enrolled in Experian's $4.95 to $19.99 a month unlimited credit monitoring that gives me the ability to pull my reports unlimited times and get unlimited FICO scoring for Experian. So yesterday, 8/10, my score was 715. I get an alert today that my FICO dropped 14 points and I immediately go on but there are no bad accounts or derogs anywhere. I then pull up my Great Lakes installment account and see that this past months reporting on 7/31 has been deleted and with it went the reporting of my $600 payment. So now my student installment loan is showing last updated 6/31 instead of 7/31. Simply gone.
How could this happen? Is this common? Should I give it a few days or start making stern calls? Who would I call anyway- Experian or Great Lakes? I haven't pulled any of my other reports yet so I dont know if this is isolated to Experian. I am very upset. How can payments just vanish?
I eagerly look forward to your seasoned advice. Thank You!
You first need to make informal calls and get to the root.
It could be due to an update snafu on the part of the creditor, or an error on part of the CRA.
I would begin with the creditor, and see what they say......
Thanks Robert! Will do! It feels like it's always something. Also Experian has an inquiry from 8/6/13 that was supposed to delete last week and never did. I'll have to follow up with that too.

Inquiries are not removed until the following month. So you won't see it disappear until September. You can call on Sept 1 and they will remove. Otherwise it will fall off at some point during the month. I've had similar experience but if you call the following month they will remove immediately.
Thanks for the info, Bmac! It's much appreciated.
Well, an update of sorts: I ran my Equifax report and it's showing the updated installment balance correctly which leads me to believe it's an issue with Experian. I called the customer service line for members and surprisingly got right through and the lady simply replied that what happened was strange but she put in a dispute with Experian. I didn't want to make a big production out of it but I've never been down this road before with a dispute or anything. They only option was to wait to see if it corrected itself which it probably wouldn't have until it reported next month. She told me it would take 30 days.
I was able to clear up a bunch of incorrect aliases that I had one of which listed my street name as my last name.
