Hello,
I pulled my credit report and one of them has several different versions of my name and different cities/addresses I have supposedly lived in. I have only lived in one city my entire life. Also, there are 25ish different open credit lines on my report that aren't mine. Luckily, or unluckily, they are all in good standing. There are mainly credit cards, like Banana Republic, Macy's, Ford Motor Credit, etc, but they all have on-time payments or have been paid off.
How do I get these off of my report and how will this likely affect my score? There are thousands of dollars worth of open credit line which is not mine. Also, should I just send a drivers license to prove my identity along with a copy of my social security card? What would be the best way to approach this? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!
Tammy
Do you have a REALLY common name?
Do you have a friend/relative you think may be using your name for credit?
I would start disputing one by one and get them off your reports. If you think any of this is fraud, you may want to put a fraud alert on your reports to get this to stop.
No, I don't have a horribly common name. My first name is Tammy and my last name starts with Hu****, I have names such as Tammy Wu, Tam Phong... etc. My credit wasn't great to start with. So I am not sure why or how someone would have gotten that much credit in my name or names that were similar using my information. But.. I suppose stranger things have happened.
Thank you for the heads up!!
I realize that you might want to make your credit report correct and remove all accountst that are not yours..... However, an account that is not yours but has good payment history AND IS CLOSED is helping your credit and probably can't be reopened. I can't see any disadvantage to letting it stay. Perhaps worth waiting for others to weigh in on any potential negatives to leaving those accounts alone.
ByrdMan,
You are correct. I was interpreting "paid off" to be an account that was closed. I can see they probably meant a CC with a zero balance.
