Medical Bill Issue

Hi:

I recieved a call this week about a medical bill from 7 years ago. April 2002.

I had no recolecction of this incident, as it turns out my wife called the paramedics for our son while in LA.

If I pay the bill that will be a full 7 years in April, will it isit on my report for another 7 years?

It has never shown up on my report in all of these years.

What should I do?

Thanks

Re: Medical Bill Issue

If you want to pay it, you need to get a PFD agreement with them. Is it a CA or OC that is reporting.

Re: Medical Bill Issue

There is nothing reporting yet.

They did a skip trace to find me and are using my social security number from the skip trace.

Even if it were valid, wouldnt it fall off at 7 year mark? That would be April this year.

Thanks

Re: Medical Bill Issue

What is OC and CA?

Collection Agent? Yes the collection agency is now calling me and harrasing me. I am contacting the hospital and ambulance to get medical records.

My wife says there was no ambulance ride.

Thanks in advance

Re: Medical Bill Issue

OC=Original Creditor and CA=Collection Agency.

If it's not being reported, I would ignore the CA other than to tell them not to contact you by phone again (nothing else). If you pay the OC, then make sure that they are not going to report.

Yes, CRTP will expire in 7-7.5 years from DOFD(Date of First Delinquency).

Re: Medical Bill Issue

Is the date of first delinquency the date of service?

I think I may have told the CA too much because I was telling them I had no recollection of the matter.

They must have skip traced my info cause they have a ton of info on me.

Thanks again.

Re: Medical Bill Issue

Hop over to the Rebuilding Your Credit board and read the stickied thread about HIPAA and medical collections.

Medical collections can be easier to get off your records, but you have to do your part in the correct order.

My husband had a medical collection on two of his reports that we didn't even know about, because the ER billing service didn't submit it properly. They never contacted us or anything.

Thank goodness, the insurance company, which we weren't even with any more, agreed to pay the bill, and the collection was removed.

Re: Medical Bill Issue

I'd tell the CA to get bent. SOL must be past by now. The debt is nearly seven years old. I would pay for non-reporting with the OC. If they don't want to deal with you, then it's their loss.

Oh, well, that's true. See, this is why I stay off of Rebuilding!
