Medical Collections PFD denied - what next?

The CFO said he would personally call the CA where the account is with, while I am there handing over the certified check, so I could listen in on the phone call.  Am I too trusting?

I'd still get it in writing that way if it ever shows up again or something happens you have written proof that they said it would be deleted. B.
