Most of the debt on my credit report is medical. Any suggestions on how I should proceed with paying them off? Should I start with the smallest $$ to largest? Oldest to newest? By paying these will my score get higher?
Before paying try for a PFD. Are the debts verified as yours?
I would start with the newest to the oldest. If you know they are yours then for medical debt you have these options and I would do them in the numbered order. Good luck ![]()
1. Call the OC and ask that they recall the collection in exchange for full payment
2. Send the reporting CA a PFD offer
3. Google the HIPAA Process and contact its creator for help

Hello and welcome to myFICO.
Are you talking about medical debt that has late payments, charge offs, collections etc?
Or are you just having problems paying off accounts in good standing?
Sorry for my confusion. I stay that way alot.
Good advice all around -- I used to work in a hospital and I would also suggest contacting the doctor's offices/hospitals/whoever has billed you and try to work out a payment plan if the bills are for a lot of money (since medical debt can build ridiculously fast). Most hospitals/doctor's offices will work out a payment plan. If it's in collections, try PFDs or pay what you can and keep writing GW letters.

Medical Collections. I have insurance but still had a lot outstanding after cancer, chemo etc.
Sorry, but would what is a PFD and a GW?

It takes awhile to catch on to all the Abbreviations but you'll get the hang of it!
I had about $4,000 in medical debt that I owed after insurance. I know its not much compared to some people but I had an offer on one of my credit cards for 0% for 12 months for the total amount of my medical debt. Helped me out.
