Re: Medical collection- best way to proceed?

Can I ask what your advice would be then if they still refuse to send me anything in writing?  Should I go ahead and pay it off?  The debt is only a year and a half old.  I don't want to spend the next few years fearful of being sued!  Also, will it help my credit at all if it is at least listed as paid in full?

Having it paid will be marginally better for your scores and yes prevent you from being sued.

Many CAs take several attempts with PFDs before they accept.   If they respond first with a no... no this does not mean that is final and you should go ahead and pay them... you try again.

Re: Medical collection- best way to proceed?

Which method are you using (HIPAA or just a PFD?) ,,, because with HIPAA you are inclufding the payment and standing on Personal Health Info release and their 'need' to report a paid account.

Lady_Scarlet, I sent you a message Smiley Happy

My other fear is that now that  I have "stirred the pot" so-to-speak, this CA will report me to the other two CRA's as well.  Right now it's only with Transunion, so my other two scores are strong.  Should I just go ahead and pay this then, or should I continue with the PFD letters?

Re: Medical collection- best way to proceed?

Question...I had several small bills that came through the cracks (crappy insurance), I think I ended up paying about as much as the surgery itself for anesthesia? and that stuff...anyway, it's been 6 years (next week), and I paid a few two years ago (thought I was done).  Just rec'd a notice from small claims court from a CA for court in January...I sent DV, they sent me a STATEMENT with my name on it and balance due...I thought I paid a different CA for this back in 2005, how do I know what the SOL would be for medical?  I'm in MN...the Why Chat letter makes it sound as though it's 4 years - please advise so I know how to proceed.

Thanks!!
