Merchant created duplicate accounts

I recently purchased several lawn products from a local merchant and financed these items through Exmark/GE Money Bank.

Somehow the merchant apparently (according to GEMB) submitted the credit app twice and GEMB opened 2 different revolving accounts with the same LOC on each.

One account had the purchased items which consumed 90% of the LOC on that account, and the other account has a zero balance.

GEMB will gladly close the duplicate account, but after reading these forums, doing so may negatively impact my FICO score.

Should I have GEMB close the unused, duplicate account or just leave it open and unused?

I have an excellent FICO score and when the duplicate account hit my ScoreWatch, my FICO score only dipped 2 points. Thanks for any help.

IMO  if they have different account #s....I would just keep both.  As to scores...because they have already dropped scores only 2 points.......the card with Bal $0 is cancelling out the Bal on the other.
SO your UTIL remains the same!
