Mint.com

I am interested in using Mint. Are there any thoughts out there about this online software?

  • Good Accounting?
  • Bad Accounting?
  • Safe Site?
  • Anyone have any major problems?
  • What's your favorite thing that Mint does or about the site?
  • Least favorite?
  • Any info much appreciated and much thanks.

Re: Mint.com

I use Mint for the purposes of daily review of my checking and credit accounts, and seeing a bigger picture of what kind of cash I have available. It is also nice to see what categories my spending is falling into...i.e. fast food, entertainment, etc. That budget feature is nice.

Site is secure, never had any issues at all. It's free... hard to complain.

Re: Mint.com

I use both PageOnce and Mint android apps, I know they also have iPhone apps

Its nice to get alerts and have one page to check credit balances rather than log in seperately

Re: Mint.com

I really like mint. I've only had 2 issues with it so far:

1) Never change the category of a "pending" transaction (or anything on a pending transaction). If so, then the pending transaction(s) can't reconcile with their posted counterparts, and they will remain pending forever according to mint, and double count in your ledger. They then have to be manually deleted, and all is well.

2) Some accounts have intermittent trouble syncing up. I have 2 Ameriprise retirement accounts that are now over a week stale, unable to sync, even though I have verified the login info is still correct. According to mint forums, this is a frequent problem with some brokerages/banks, and you just have to hold your breath until the issue is fixed.

All in all, it's a great way to get a complete, daily snapshot of everything and track budgets, trends and goals.

this has been my experience too.  mostly, it's my sallie mae student loan accounts that give me trouble.  right now, there's some bug that is causing them to show up twice, which almost gave me a heart attack the first day i saw it.  still waiting for them to fix that.  other than that, i love mint.  i can refresh it all the time, it labels my transactions for me, i can change those labels if i want to, etc.  overall, i'm really glad i tried it out.

laz, have you got USAA reporting on your mint account? I finally gave up on it, because it never ever would update, and I got tired of them saying that they were working on it, but nothing ever changed. Once you count checking, savings, investments and the rest, USAA is half or more of my accounts, and it was worthless without them reporting correctly.

Re: Mint.com

I found Mint okay before it was bought by Intuit, but now, I'm not too happy. I have lots of account duplications on there. It's really annoying.

I still use Yodlee, which is what Mint was built on before Intuit bought it.
