Re: My age is "Not Good"

My nephew got a Capitalone card($300) at around November of last year at the age of 19. As of today he has never been late and now has a Fifth 3rd cc($1500) and just received a Chase cc($3900). He has Amex and Discovery and every other ccc sending him pre approved apps. So as long as you pay on time I can see the ccc companies Begging for your business instead of having to send in recon letters like me LOL

Re: My age is "Not Good"

I have no intention of having a handful of credit cards. I detest chase manhattan bank. my father is currently wrapped up in a class action against them. Tons of companies are sending me credit card offers, and I don't accept them. Honestly, it's a hassle. I've never been a fan of paying interest on anything, I'm not really into supporting credit card companies, I want to do as little as possible to get where I need to go. : ) I know I need to wait now, I was just wondering how long. I'll check in around May.

You've been given some great advice, and I love your attitude towards credit, which means you'll more than likely end-up with a very high score when time catches-up with you. As I'm sure it's already been said NEVER be late, NEVER not pay, and NEVER take more than you can handle - and this is from someone who wish she had the attitude (at your age) that you have now. Good luck and Happy Holidays!!

If the offers are really bugging you, you can opt out:

However, since you know that you will eventually be picking up another card or two, it can be handy having the pre-approvals, because you can get some sort of idea as to which CCC's might be interested in you. When you pull your full reports (directly from the CRA's), they show the soft inquires, including the ones done when creditors are checking your out, and seeing who sent you offers, and who didn't. That can be useful when you're deciding which cards you're likely to get.

I opted out for a while, and now I've opted back in, as I plan to app for a couple of cards in March. You might want to just collect and file what you get for now, and shred them once they've served their purpose.

And let me join the others in congratulating you for understanding this stuff now! Good luck to your dad --there are some Chase fans on these forums, but there are a lot of Chase haters as well.
