Mysterious consumer report: Socure

Does anyone know anything about this mysterious consumer reporting company? https://socure.com/datarights

  • I just applied to a bank, they had Socure send me an SMS which asked me to submit a selfie and a photo of my ID. (I've done this many times before with other banks and passed easily.)
  • Apparently I failed the check. I spoke to Socure and they said that they were not just an ID verification company but also a fraud risk assessment company. So I might have failed the photo match or the risk assessment, or maybe those two are combined.
  • I asked them for all the data they had on me, we will see whether they get back to me. They asked me to verify with selfie again, so maybe they will say I failed. Based on their responses, they may stonewall me in other ways as well.

"Selfie? You mean a photograph? I'm sorry, my religious beliefs prohibit photographs: each one steals a piece of your soul, don'tcha know... Are you going to deny my application because of my religion???"

Re: Mysterious consumer report: Socure

Update: I passed my selfie verification with Socure (to get my data, not to apply to the original bank). Odd, since I failed the Socure check with the bank under similar conditions. Anyway, they will get back to me within a month or two, with either my info or a statement that they won't give me my info.

I'm not really sure why they are allowed to not give me my info since they seem to meet the definition of a consumer reporting company. Whatever.

Re: Mysterious consumer report: Socure

Update: They gave me my report about 30 days earlier than expected! I described it here: https://reddit.com/r/CRedit/comments/1hlqtz9/socure_report_correcting_and_interpreting_results/

  • It is not really labeled; for example, one of the files contains a bunch of random addresses I've never heard of. But I'm not sure what these addresses are supposed to be so I can't be sure.
  • One of the files they gave me was a bunch of IP addresses. I don't really keep track but they all seem legit based on the location, and a few are definitely correct work addresses. I'm pretty sure that my normal home address isn't there.
  • I think somewhere on the Socure website said that they collect and analyze financial account data, but there was no financial account data in the report they sent me.
  • The report contained a few errors which I think came from ChexSystems and Equifax. There were some typo variations of my name and address which used to be in those systems and which I removed  by dispute, but they appear in my Socure report. Unless Socure is getting it from another source, seems kinda sloppy tbh.

Re: Mysterious consumer report: Socure

Okay, so one of the .json files in my report is a big list of unlabeled addresses; the file is also unlabeled. I don't recognize any of them, exept for one which showed up incorrectly on my Equifax and was remove by dispute (I think I incorrectly said ChexSystems before.

Any idea what this could be?

I asked Socure 2 big lists of questions and they didn't answer that one either time. I just tried again with just that 1 question, I'll see what they come back with.
