NFCU Question

I finally convinced my uncle to allow my mom to become a member of NFCU so I could become a member. I haven't joined yet I want to wait until January. But it took me forever to convince him I wasn't scamming. He's a Marine who is suspicious of credit, the government, his relatives and seems to think anyone who lives in NYC is a scammer.  So since I worked so hard to get this far I have some questions:

What should my scores and file look like for NCFU credit cards/products? I'm a member of PENFED but those folks ask for everything but the kitchen sink. I actually turned down a loan they wanted to give me because after I turned in ALL my income info, even got a transcript from the IRS (they didn't ask but the rep just kept asking for more and it took so long I just ordered it and sent it over). Needless to say I rebuke ever dealing with PENFED ever. The biggest issue I have right now is revolving history I had none since 2008. Just student loans and satified tax lien and 1 judgement. The tax lien is set to fall off in November.  The judgement isn't going anywhere until 2018, but it's paid. I have total of six credit cards now, only  2 inquiries on EQ, 4 on both TU and Exp. I don't plan on adding anymore inquiries. I am just working with the cards I have. Scores Exp: 683, TU 697, EQ 681. My utilization is 14% but I only did that to see my scores rise. I will be down to 9% next month.

Should I wait to apply in a year or is January good? All my revolving accounts are from June and July this year as in opened. AAOA is 5 years. Any suggestions or help me garden more/better would be greatly appreciated.

Meanwhile my mom has completely moved all her accounts to NFCU, she loves them and their products.

Re: NFCU Question

I would do it now... I joined in Feb and I think my scores were around 615ish.  I got a $7000 cash rewards and $5000 CLOC.  I think that your fine.
