Name changing affect my Credit?

Hello everyone,

Several weeks ago i applied for a MasterCard then i got a mail weeks later saying i did not qualify for it, this is not my first time applying for a credit card. My question is....does name changing affect my credit. I recently did a name change and i went to my bank to change my name on there. So they asked me if i want to apply for a visa credit card so i said yes. but when they pull my information my credit was not good and the credit line was lower compared to my other credit card. After i told to check again so see if there is a mistake because i have change my name. After they checked the credit line was much higher. Because of these two incident i am thinking that its my name change. If it is my name change, what can i do to fix my credit? who can i contact?

Thx!

Re: Name changing affect my Credit?

I, too, have recently had my name changed but it did not affect my credit in any way. I still have a 753 EQ FICO; and, I recently applied and received a new CC from USAA with a generous CL. It has been my understanding that a name change has no bearing on your credit score.

Re: Name changing affect my Credit?

The only affect this would have is if for some reason you ended up with 2 files. One from the old name and one from the new name.

Have you pulled your free annual reports to see if they are showing the name change?

You can also contact each CRA and ask them to update your name on your reports, you'll have to likely send in proof
