Hi,
Haven't been on the boards lately as I'm a full-time student and Ive been swamped.
I'm also unemployed and got a 30 day late on a perfect payment history of 2 years with my favorite credit union, Navy Federal. Has anyone ever had any success with a goodwill request from NFCU? I'm planning on sending my goodwill letter at the end of this week.
Also, does anyone know who to send the goodwill letter? I've asked several people at NFCU and no one seems to have a clue.
Thanks in advance everyone.
I dont deal specifically with NavFed, but they probably the highest ranked CU in the nation. They are certainly the biggest.
In drafting a GW letter, I would make a few simple recommendfations.
Of course, you have to minimaly acknowlege the delinquency payment. First, isolate why the account was held to have been delinquent.
There are two reasons: either you paid on time, but did not remit the min. payment due, or you did not pay on time.
Tell them why either of these events occured, and why it was a single anomoly. Emphasize that this is the one, and only, late ever with them, how much you value their service, and how much the granting of their GW deletion will foster your future business with them. I would not just say, "help me out in order to improve my credit score."
As to who to address it to, they have an accounts management division, or whatever they call it, which handles the reporting of their accounts to the CRAs. That would seem the logical address to obtain.

First, I would follow RobertEG's advice to the letter.
Second, I would address the letter to the president of NFCU directly.
I have no idea how NFCU reacts to goodwill requests, but maybe others here will. I do know that for collections they are ruthless.
I concur with O6.
If you dont know the office structure of the CU, and thus who to address it to, there is probably one person in the CU who does.
And that is the personal secretary to the president.
When you send it to the office of the president, you can probably be assured that it wont be put on the desk of the president.
But his or her staff will most assuredly know who to delegate it to.
