Need guidance...please help!

My wife and I are hoping to apply for a mortgage loan in the next year, but first I would like to repair/build my credit. I am unsure of my score right now, but I think it was about 540 a year ago. I do not have any active positive accounts at the moment. I have 6 negative items. Here they are from my report:

Applied Bank- Status: Paid in settlement/Account charged off
Capital One Bank- Status: Paid,Closed/Account charged off
Debt Recovery Solutions- Status: Collection account. last date is 12/2007
Belk-Status: Paid,Closed/Account charged off.
HSBC Bank- Status: Transferred,closed/Account charged off. it also says $546 written off
Interstate Credit coll- collection acct.

I am new to this, and I am not sure what info I need to provide. I am just looking for advice on what steps to take next, in order to build credit. Thanks.

What is important to us is....the DOFD and DOLA....dates set by the OC

Capital One Bank- Status: Paid,Closed/Account charged off   CAP1  ( is an OC)  what is the DOFD.

You can find the DOFD or DOLA on you CR!!

Debt Recovery Solutions- Status: Collection account. last date is 12/2007
       This is a CA     who are they collecting for     or  and was it assigned or did they buy the account.

You also need to know what your SOL is as you do not want anyone to file a lawsuit against you.

I will look at my CR, and get those dates.  As for the SOL, do I go by the state I live in now, or the state I lived in when the account was opened?

I am looking at my Trans Union CR.  I don't see DOLA?  Where would I find that?
