Negatives affecting score-how long?

Will the negative items on the CR stop poorly effecting the score as time goes on? Or will it hurt the score until the time the negatvie item falls off the CR? For example, it's been two years since we were late on my husband's SL. I know that hurts our score, but will it still cause the same amount of score damage as say in would in another year or two?

Different derogs have diff impacts, 30-60 day lates hurt the most in the first 2 years post, 90+ day lates hurt the entire time they are on file, the impact lessens with time but still costs points until they are purged from your CRs. Same with COs and CAs. PRs will hurt the entire time as well and with good ding to Fico even at the point they become excluded.
