Negotiating with CA--reasonable amounts?

I don't know if anyone out there can offer a suggestion but here goes:

Original debt was $11,000. Account sent to collection agency in Jan 2006 (date of last activity prior to that was 3/2004). I have since paid off approx $5000 through regular monthly installments. What is a reasonable settlement figure to ask for with the CA? I know they "buy" the debt for pennies on the dollar. At one time they were willing to accept $7000 as settlement.

I'm guessing it depends on how long or if they have you on a payment plan, they may not accept anythingSmiley Sad

I have an upcoming trial to determine what I owe - they partially won in that I owe something but I am going in w/all proof I can find to show what this company has paid, that the OC is NOT getting a dime, and it should be interesting!  I just refuse for principals sake to fight...I don't want them to continue to get away w/this because Congress is too dang busy to pay attention to average Janes & Johns!

I did decide to spend the $55 to take them to court too for one violation and financial damage, if nothing else I'm giving it a shot at what's right for consumersSmiley Happy
