New Member that needs lots of help PLEASE

Hello,

I am a new member. I am still trying to find my way around the Myfico page....Whew! If you have any tips to help please pass them on. I am great need of trying to help raise my score....I had some old debt that went to collections. I have paid them off....still waiting on the CRA to update....it's been since 02/07. Geez....LOL I have BK on my report that will be removed 06/08....is there is anyway to get it removed sooner? I sent a letter last year to all the CRAs and TU took it off but the other 2 did not. I am wanting to up my score to help with a better interest rate. I do have some late payments....do I do a GW letter for them? Any advice would be great.
Thanks!

In my experience, TU will take off just about anything that you dispute but the other 2 are near impossible. I would suggest disputing those collection accounts and see if you can get them off even tho they show paid. I went 30, 60, and 90 days past due on my Capital One but once I paid them down and got things back under control, I disputed it and Capital One changed my history as never having been late. Good luck and if you have any tips, please pass them along to me :-)

Re: New Member that needs lots of help PLEASE

Hey,

Thanks! I did write GW letters as I read last night on here that it's worth a try. I am still amazed at all the info on this site. I am addicted! I have another question....when we pay the $15.95 or whatever it is to watch the other credit companies....is that a month or year? I know....I know....I seem so lost.

Re: New Member that needs lots of help PLEASE

I'm pretty sure it's per month. I just have the score watch on here and I go through a couple other sites to moniter my other credit bureaus. But surely dispute with the credit bureaus and when they contact the creditor you've paid off, maybe they won't have your file anymore and they'll have to completely remove the paid (formerly delinquent) account. My advice is to dispute all the bad stuff, past or present, and see what comes off. My girlfriend was in the same position as you minus the BK and paid all her collections and stuff but was still a 500. I disputed everything and almost everything came off and put her at like a 640-650 range

Thanks for the advice....when you disputed it....what did you say? I know this is a slow process....I jsut keep checking every day. What other companies do you use to monitor yours with?

Disputing is like watching paint dry. Settle in and get comfortable. It's worth the effort though. Smiley Wink

Re: New Member that needs lots of help PLEASE

Probably so true....I think I might have asked this question....but if I want to get a collection that has been paid and states settled for less amount....do I send a GW letter? What are my odds of getting it taken care off completely? I think I read on here that getting collections taken off is much better than just having it paid. I didn't know at the time that I paid them that I should have done a PFD. Is it to late to ask for it to be deleted?
Also....I sent a GW letter to a few companies that had posted late payments on my CR. How long does it normally take to hear anything back from them? I know I am loaded with questions....sorry.
Thanks!

Re: New Member that needs lots of help PLEASE

babyduck,

If the lates are legit, then yes GW is about the only way. YMMV. Some report zero success with GW. Others have great luck with it. Here are some samples, including mine that worked.

Study GW letters, here and on other forums. Don't copy 'em word for word. Feel free to take anyone's GW letter as a starting point. But put it in your words. Make it sound like it came from you. Tailor it to your situation. Try to be truthful, or at least make it sound plausible.

And don't send it CMRRR.
