New card activation before or after?

I was wondering if i shold wait till my new credit card comes in the mail before

i try to request my free credit report from annual credit report,thanks.

The step of credit card activation is a security measute to ensure the cardholder received the card. 

The account is established when they approve it.

Thus, activation is not required in order for it to appear in your credit report.

However, I would still wait a few weeks before burning an annual free report to make sure they have completed their first reporting to the CRAs.

To accomplish what?  The account may or may not show up on the reports.  It takes some time for new accounts to show up and the length of time can vary quite a bit from days to months.  How long it takes has nothing to do with whether you have received the card or activated it.  It all depends on when the creditor reports the account.
