Newbie Introduction!

Hi allSmiley Happy Annie From Florida here! My husband and I are anxious to buy a new home.

It is all we think about to be honest and I am trying to clean up some very poor credit for both of us. EQ Scores : Me: 574 Hubby: 537

Have not bought other scores yet, will do so later.

Our story: I am totally disabled on SSD. I became disable in 2000 and foolishly we tried to hang on to everything instead of just letting everything go at once. The result is a trail of late payments and issue over the past 7 years while I fought with disability companies, and SS etc. In the wake of losing my job that supplied my families health insurance, hubby had little choice but to leave the decent paying but non insurance providing job he had to get us insurance from a lower paying job.
Eventually the decision was made for him to go back to school to be a nurse ( he is now a nurseSmiley Happy so our finances were even worse for some time. Finally things have turned around for us. I no longer have to struggle with SS as I was finally approved and hubby is on track with a promising nursing career. I am trying to dispute what I can as many things are incorrect, but it is so confusing getting through the maze of collection agencies that seem to keep passing on the same debts to each other with yet another mark on our credit. I have been reading this forum for a while now and have finally jumped in to start trying to take action. I have created a dispute letter through the automated myfico system but wonder if that is the best way to approach it vs individual letters as there is about 10 things I am dealing with.

I don't want to be labeled as frivolous, but to be honest, there are lots of incorrect things and this is the first time I am trying to repair them, prior to reading this forum, I figured it was an insurmountable task and that I was stuck with the info even though wrong.

Other issues: I have a tax lien due to the incorrect reporting of a lump sum settlement for my disability insurance but too much time has gone by to really do much about it. Call it my punishment for avoidance I suppose...lesson learned. The debt is mostly paid and will be satisfied with this years tax return so should be eligible for lifting shortly.

We both have a couple good TL with perfect payments but they are all a little under 6 months old (hooters, household bank) Hubby has a current car loan in good standing but there are NUMEROUS lates through the years. Pays as agreed for the past 5 months.
We have no judgments, foreclosures, repos, or BKs.

Our income is not high, with my disability and his salary it doesn't exceed 50,000.
Hubby is a Navy vet but we dont know if we could get a VA loan with our credit issues.
probably a topic I will broach in the mortgage sectionSmiley Happy

Foolishly I was suckered n by Lexington law a few months back and paid them for a few months for the premier service. Part of me knew better so I only signed up for one of us to see how things went. Needless to say it was a disappointment,as they were obviously only sending out form letters. Experien refused to even acknowledge them, and although some things were deleted from transunion, I really thought the money could be better spent do things like PFD etc. I am going to try hard to participate in this forum so that hopefully some of you can get to know me and maybe assist me in this venture. We really need a house of our ownSmiley Happy
We are not crazy, we know that although we would love to buy this minute that it may take a bit of time to work it out, but we really would love to work a miracle in the next year...prices here in Florida are so attractive that it is hard to sit by and watch this opportunity pass us.

So thats my story, i will post the other scores shortly, I am bracing myself now as I don't anticipate good news. Thanks in advance! Annie

Re: Newbie Introduction!

Hey !!!  My name is Alex from Darien, Ct. I'm new to this site and in the infant stages of dealing with my credit issues.  Oh if I had only listened to my parents about the importance of good credit.  However, I am so glad that I happened to stumble across this place because I really wasn't looking.  Thanks for being here as it's nice to know that I don't have to go about this thing alone!
