OM Cashed the Check, now the Collection Attorney is Calling.

Some of you remember me panicking about a small bounced check to Office Max when my ex emptied out my business account. Well, it took half of forever, but today the check cleared my account (just printed out a copy of it for my records). Today, I also picked up a voice mail from the collection attorney stating that they can help me resolve the debt (huh?).

This is probably too elementary, but I am so pumped up right now that I can't think straight. Nothing is reported to the CRAs about this at all. Certegy was DV'd away a few months ago (they were the only one's reporting anything). What's my next step? I am not going to want this atty calling me everyday now. Do I send him a FOAD at this point?

Dang, if I can just calm down I can think. This is very exciting for me. It just feels good to do the right thing and get a monkey off your back at the same time, you know?

Anyway, any help is much appreciated.

Yes ByrdMan, I know EXACTLY how you feel, and good for you! You ARE doing the right thing.

For now, take a deep cleansing breath, maybe back off of thinking about it for a while, and note the others' responses.

So many people have benefited from your wisdom, and comments.

The attorney calling probably CAN help you resolve the issues, IF you pay him your money. very misleading, but in essence it is true. is the amount astronomical, or just a little amount owed?

If it's not reporting, is it worth the peace of mind of keeping it off your CR's just to pay him?

Sorry I'm not much help, but have limited experience in this field. I'm sure others will respond and offer their normal wonderful opinions/advice.

The amount was under $100. I paid it to Office Max, they cashed the check...finally. Nothing else is owed. I owed it to OM, not them. I think what happened is that OM informed them that I had paid them and now he is royally p.o.'d. If anything pops up on my CR, I will DV. If that doesn't work, I will ITS him. Just not sure how to handle them in the interim. First message that they have left since Nov.

That sounds like a good plan to me.  Let him be po'd. It's YOUR money, and you owed it to O.M. and did the right thing, imo.
