Off-Topic: What cell phone provider do you have?

I so don't care if this is off-topic and has nothing to do with credit because there is no off-topic forum.

I have Alltel.  I'm on my uncle's cell phone plan and so is my mother.  I pay for my mother and myself and have been doing so for exactly one year.  From Nov 06- Now.  I moved to North Carolina back in April and have gotten the worst service (reception and customer service) since I've been here.  Have had problems getting the phone replaced (even though I have a warranty and insurance on it), some stores haven't been able to help me because of my specific phone number...

I told one guy named Matt at a store in Kernersville that I was having problems with my phone and he said, "Kyocera, wow...that particular one is infamous for having problems.  It's a terrible phone."  So obviously that didn't make me feel good about the phone so I told the guy I don't care what he does, I just want another phone - whether it's cheaper or an old 80s nokia, I just don't want a phone that's "infamous." And he backpedaled and said, "well, it's not that bad and you can't get another phone unless you want to buy another one for retail price."  And I was so upset, I told him, "You can't tell a customer their product is inferior and then not offer some sort of new product or replacement for a discounted price or even for free.  That's not how to provide customer service."  And he said...and I quote, "Thank you for telling me how to do my job."  And I FREAKED OUT.  I just ordered a manufacturer replacement and took off.

I hadn't been to a store since until last week when I ordered a replacement phone on Monday because...surprise, my phone display is not working, can't see who's calling or anything!  And he said the phone would be here in three business days...well, that was the monday before last...hmm..pretty sure that is longer.  And then I called customer service at around midnight and asked where my phone was and the lady hung up!  It didn't say call lost...it said call ended...hung up.  And now it just sucks.  I want to get out my uncle's contract and I want them to waive the cancellation fee due to poor treatment. I know the likelihood is low, but I expect spectacular customer service,  I work for amex.  So I'm going to get what I want.  I don't care how many times I have to call.

Again, who do you subscribe to?

Amex employees get 20 percent off at AT&T cingular and verizon.  15% at sprint and 12% at TMobile.  I'm thinking Verizon.

What does you working for AMEX  has to do with the service that you would get? They do not care who you work for as long as you pay your bill, have a long history with them and buy phones they will love you. I could see them going the extra mile for a celebrity because of the publicity they would get but that is about it. I could also see if you had one of their top of the line phones. Cell phone companies make most their money off of people buying new cell phones. They hope that you break the phone or it goes out after the contract is up. That is with any cell phone company.

I have sprint (whom I have had for 10 years). Although, the phone service is nothing to brag about, I personally have never really had a problem with customer service. I have a Treo 755 and it froze and would not do anything else and they replaced it on the spot. I do have equipment placement insurance on my phone. You may want to think about getting that.

I have always been taught that you catch more bees with honey and not viniger--be nice to the next person, you will get better service. Kill them with kindness!

He can actually tell you that the phone is not a good one, especially if he tries to sell you a new-- he might just work off of commission and they are trained to get the consumer to buy the biggest best phone ever.

The reason I mention Amex is...we are taught to provide extraordinary, top-of-the-line customer service.  And now, I'm found, that my standards are raising with the service that I receive across the line with everything I experience in my life.  I start spouting off Blue Box Values and mission statements from American Express.

You also mentioned AMEX because of your Corporate discount with various carriers listed in your original post, right?

The FI Admin/Mods do not have any problems posting OT threads so long as they remain friendly. BTW I use AT&T not by choice but rather my employer pays for it.

Verizon Wireless - and yes, it's good BUT I am really disliking Verizon for other reasons.

Might I suggest that you go around your new area and ask people who have cell phone about their provider and reliability of service.

Pretty much every provider has good coverage here - it's DC and you do NOT have Congressmen, Senators and FCC people losing service - they might pass legislation to make you actually provide service!

Remember the re-vamped Banking laws (no more 7 day holds for your next door neighbor's check for GS Cookies) - happened because a bank held a freshman congressman's funds when he came to town and he ended up sleeping on someone's counch for something like 2 weeks before he could get his apartment.

Ok I got it. It is kind of hard to try and grasp that what one company does another one doesn't.

I have one friend that has Alltel and I have yet to hear her say anything good about the service-- then again she does live in no mans land. You may want to google "get out of cell phone contract," it is a web-site that tells you how to get out of it, somewhere in google land. I am not sure of the site but I have heard about it.
