Once out of SOL does it dropp off CRA?

I have a collection with Afni-Bloom, a cingular account, I read in a reply that the federal SOL for cell phones is two years, now once it is outside the SOL do i just write the CRAs and get them to take it off, and does a federal SOL take presidence over the state SOL, i live in Alabama... i'm sending a validation letter to the CA today, will this affect anything regarding the utilization of the SOL? very green to this - TIA

SOL has nothing to do with when an item comes off your report. That is the time in which you can be sued and they can win. All negative items stay on your report from the day you became negative and never caught up again (DOFD). More info on the account: What is the DOFD/DOLA?

The good news is, that since it is out of SOL you have some leverage. You can contact the creditor and offer to pay in exchange for having the collection removed from your credit report. Make sure they agree to this in writing. They'll whine and say they can't do it, but they can. And since they have no way to force you to pay otherwise, they probably will. But don't pay them until they agree in writing to delete the account.
