One Late Payment and it was the last payment due---need help

Has anybody had any success with getting Lincoln Financial to remove a 30 day late pay.

In May of 2015 my wife leased me a car (my credit was too bad to qualify with her).  We set up autopay and for 36 months we had no problems.  We actually extended the lease for 5 more months and again we had no issues, except on the final payment of the lease agreement.

For whatever reason Lincoln decided not take the final payment out like they had done for 38 previous months.  We were actually on vacation when i received a call saying the payment was late.  I immediately paid it over the phone but later we discovered they reported that last payment as late. My wife was scoring on myfico between 800-809 today she is in the mid 682-690.  Her credit card balances are 0 and her installment loans which are recent, have had big chunks of their original loan amount reduced.  Ironically, my scores are a little bit higher than hers now.

I wrote to Lincoln and asked for a goodwill or good cause deletion (as it seems they were the reason it was late) but they said no.

Her oldest credit account is 16+ years old and this is her ONLY late payment.

Any advice on getting it removed?

Continue sending goodwill letters and hope one lands with someone that is willing to help.

One more reason to never setup autopay on anything.  I don't mind sitting down twice a month to pay my bills and then a few days later verify that they have been paid.  The only autopay bill I have set up is my gym membership which is month to month anyway.  Good luck getting this resolved OP.

Re: One Late Payment and it was the last payment due---need help

Yesterday I did online disputes but didn’t expect any help from the big 3. Was surprised to get an alert today from Equifax saying the account was updated to never late and a 14 point score jump.

hope it stays off.

I was glad to read the online dispute helped. That is encouraging. I would also continue to work with the lender. That is just too big of a hit on the score to not do more to get it fixed.
