Opting in

I froze all 3 credit reports 2 days ago, but I just decided to check and nothing is coming up when I use prequalifier links on any site. I didn't know sp's were affected when you freeze your reports. Can someone please tell me how to opt in or is it not possible with frozen reports?

Re: Opting in

You are automatically opted in. Unless you have opted out previously.

Re: Opting in

I tested in out on 2 sites and one site said no info comes up with my ssn. Would I have been opted out when I froze my accounts?

Re: Opting in

I don't think it's possible unless you unfreeze your credit report depending on the one they use. I'm not sure if your automatically opted in at that point. I know an Op that will know, but wont be logging in until Sunday. If you don't get an answer by then I'll ask him to give you an answer.

Re: Opting in

When you check pre approval sites it generally does not SP your CR at that time. The CRA sells profiles to creditors as fitting a predetermined criteria set by the creditor as likely approval.

Usually I think it says we could not find any pre qualified cards / products for you at this time - that's because they have yet to receive your profile from the CRA.

I think Credit One is the only SP I know of that checks for pre approval on the spot.

Re: Opting in

Thanks everyone. When I unfroze the reports the prequalified links worked again. Which is puzzling to me especially if they are only doing softpulls.

Re: Opting in

Even though parties who are making inquiries pertaining to promotional offers are required under the FCRA to be excluded from credit reports made avaliable to others (i.e., the must be coded as a soft pull), they are still obtaining information about you.

They cant get any account-specific info, but they can determine whether the current contents of your credit file meet specified criteria.

If you are opted-in and they submit a promotional inquiry, if your name is contained in a listing they obtain of consumers who meet their specified crieteria, they are obtaining info that you may not wish them to be aware.

Hi rovergirl, When you have a SF in place they can not access your credit reports. That is why no info comes up. Also when you place a SF on your file it does not opt you out, only the lenders you have on your report can access your report. If you opt-out then the lenders you have can not give out your credit info to anyone.

Hope this helps

Wade

Yes it will work then. When you have a SF in place it will not work becasue they can not get access to your files with a freeze in place
