PFD Response Questions

Good News!

I got a response to my PFD letter that I sent to RJM Acquisitions.

Here's the meat of the letter which was printed on their letterhead:

"RJM Acquisitions LLC "RJM" is pleased to accept the sum of $600 in full satisfaction of the above referenced account.

Please pay by October 14,2009.

When you finish paying, this account will be satisfied in full, and, as per your specific request, RJM will have our reporting of this account deleted with Experian and Trans-Union"

My questions:

1. The letter they sent is on their letterhead but it's not signed. Should I write them again and request that they sign the letter since my PFD letter requested their letter be signed?

2. The letter doesn't specify a time limit as to when they'd delete. Should I be concerned about that?

3. Once they delete, what is the likelyhood that they will re-list it on my report?

4. What's the best way to pay this (money order, check etc.)?

5. Should I mail the payment certified?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: PFD Response Questions

That is really good news! To try to get any place to give something in writing that states what they are promising is hard. Looks like they are willing to do so.

1. I really don't think you need a signature. Just as long as it's their letter head, it is all right.

2. It only states when you finishing paying. I had a collection agency promise to delete if I paid and I did pay. After I paid, I made sure to follow up until it came off of my CR.

3.  I have known of people having this issue, but myself I have  had a few collections deleted and none has come back yet. (knock on wood)

4.  I would def pay with your personal check or certified funds. Make copies of everything. Even send a copy of the letter with the check too. Just make sure are able to trace it back in case they said the never got the payment.

5.  Yes! Send it certified and even a signature confirmation too if possible.

Good luck!

Re: PFD Response Questions

Thanks, for the response. I forgot to mention that they were originally collecting $1200 and settled for half.

I'm really happy with my results so far. This is really starting to come together.

When I started in July my scores were: TU 527 & EQ 624

Now my scores are TU 539 & EQ 633

(I guess the Experian doesn't matter since it's not a FICO but I've had some collections deleted from there and their score went down 7 points)

Small increases, I know, but everything until this PFD hasn't costed me a penny except postage. And any forward progress will keep me smiling.

I just sent out another PFD letter and a couple of DV letters (1 account I know isn't mine so getting it deleted shouldn't be hard at all)

Good luck to all ya'll.

And I'll keep ya'll posted.

Re: PFD Response Questions

I don't advise paying with a personal check. A money order from another bank is wiser. You don't want to give the CA your bank account info. Especially since you are settling the account for half of what is owed. There's been a lot of horror stories about CAs finding out consumer's bank accounts. I'm sure one of the mods can chime in....

Re: PFD Response Questions

I got the same letter from RJM for a PFD I sent them.  It wasn't signed, but that was the only part of my request they didn't comply with.  It's paid, and they said the account will be deleted within 30 days.  Arguably the easiest CA I've dealt with

Regarding payment, do what you feel comfortable with.  I sent a personal check, which some advise against.  I don't mind.  If a company messes with my account without authorization, I'm prepared to sue.  If you don't want to risk it, get a certified check or money order.

Re: PFD Response Questions

I ended up sending them a check and a copy of their letter.

I confirmed that they received the check yesterday (friday) so I'll be watching the account for that check to clear.

If they mess with my account I'm also prepared to sue as well.

I'm sure this is all going to work out just fine.

Re: PFD Response Questions

Well, others have reported success with these guys.

So hopefully my results will be the same.

My PFD letter requested a signature but they didn't do it.

Next time I PFD a collection agency, I guess I'll write them back and ask for a signature if they don't fully comply with my PFD letter.

Maybe I rushed it..

I'm still optimistic!

Re: PFD Response Questions

I received a letter in the mail today confirming that payment was received and that they had notified the CRA's to delete.  You'll be fine.

Re: PFD Response Questions

Thanks Paytonfan. Have you pulled your reports yet to see what kind of impact this had?

The check cleared the bank early last week so I'll be waiting for my letter from them as well.

This is one of 5 collections that I have up on my TU report. I look forward to seeing the impact this has on my score.
