PFD sent - next step

I have started to work on my DH's credit reports (which are much cleaner than mine, thank goodness) and mailed (11/06/07) PFD letters to the following CAs:

CA - AFNI
OC - AT&T Broadband
Balance - $71.00
Date assigned - 12/23/04
Date reported - 09/30/07

PFD letter received via CMRRR on 11/09/07 - offer to pay balance in full

CA - Cavalry Portfolio Services
OC - Sprint PCS
Balance - $60.00
Date assigned - 05/01/02
Date reported - 06/01/02

PFD letter received via CMRRR on 11/07/07 - offer to pay balance in full

I haven't heard from either of these CA.  Should I give them some more time or should I dispute with the CRAs since they are ignoring my correspondence.  Thanks for the help.

Re: PFD sent - next step

No - it occured to me later that I probably should have done that first, but since they were both for such a small amount, I just wanted to pay them and get them off the report.

Can I still DV?

Also, I'd love to hear everyone thoughts on the following question:
Should you always DV before you send a PFD?
Thanks!

Re: PFD sent - next step

YESSSSSSSS      these could both be either not yours or well past SOL or CRTP.

And with no proof that there were assigned by any company, you might pay it only to see it reappear.

Re: PFD sent - next step

remember DV  goes CMRRR!!!!  DO NOT sign it  just type your name!

Also ask for complete account history and are they registered or licensed in your state.

Re: PFD sent - next step

Not only ask them if they are licensed and bonded, check for yourself. Google your state and licensed collection agencies. Your state gov should have a listing that you can search. If they aren't listed they can't collect. Even if they have a parent company that is licensed, the sub has to be registered as well. (in most states)

Re: PFD sent - next step

Both AFNI and Cavalry are licensed in my state (Arizona).  Last week I spent a ton of time, research, and paper Smiley Wink going after two CA that are on my credit report and have verified/validated.  Neither of these two CAs is currently licensed in my state.  One used to be, but their license expired in February 2006.
