Paying OC rather than CA ?

Hi All!

I've been lurking for quite some time now Smiley Happy This board has taught me much (and will continue to do so I'm sure) and I appreciate everyone who has shared here.

I do need some help in understanding one issue before I proceed to take care of it though.

I have medical debts in collections, about $470 total. These are pretty recent. I am able to pay the full amount.
The hospital has not sold the debt, just transfered and said that they can still take my payment.
The collection agency is already on our credit reports.
The hospital also told us that the ca is not one that would agree to take the collections off the report when/if pd.

So my question is:
If I made the full payment to the hospital, would the collections have to drop from our reports since we did pay the original creditor?
If so, is there anything I should do to ensure this happens?
If not, is there anything else I can do besides a PFD with the ca?

Thanks for any input Smiley Happy

Make the arrangements with the hospital to PFD.

They should pull them back from the CA if you talk to the right person..

Re: Paying OC rather than CA ?

After you pay the hospital dispute with CRAs. If they come back varified....DV the CA  CMRRR.
The CA must validate within 30 days......If the bill is paid  what can they validate?

Re: Paying OC rather than CA ?

Thanks for the replies.
I thought if the hosp didn't drop it I could try the DV to the CA, but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a step.
I hope it goes smoothly.

They can verify that the debt has been paid and change it to such on the CR, right?

Re: Paying OC rather than CA ?

I believe it is the CA that is reporting to CRA   not the hosp.

Re: Paying OC rather than CA ?

Yes, it's the CA reporting, not the hosp.

The bad thing is, when I saw the report I didn't get it at first thinking I should have remembered such a large unpaid bill.
The hosp sent me an envie with my unpaids, it's $3 here, $7 there, $15 for this one....
so it was jus a bunch of small unpaid balances that got me on this one.
I really don't remember getting any $3 bills in the mail but it was awhile ago.
