Paying a collection

Once I pay a collection in full, and the collection agency is informed, how do I go about making sure it gets cleared. I hate to have to trust the police dept. to contact the collection agency and the collection agency then clearing my report. I would like to make sure it gets done myself.

Anyone know how that works?

Re: Paying a collection

hi keith, welcome to the forum. There is a wealth of information here to help you with your credit situation, and many knowledgeable people here to offer their opinion/advice.

And yes, many of us here are well versed at having collection derog's removed from a credit report.

Firstly I suggest that you do not contact the collection agency at all before you have precisely determined what your best course of action is. Make no agreements with them for now.

Why on earth would you want to go to the police?? Was there credit card or forgery involved?

Perhaps you should explain the situation to us, so we may suggest a particular course of action.

Re: Paying a collection

It's a parking ticket that was placed for collection. So I called the police department and paid the ticket over the phone. They are going to send me a copy of the receipt and the ticket and they said they would contact the collection agency. And what I am hoping to do is also provide proof to the credit bureaus that the ticket has been paid once I receive the copies. I would feel better having that as a backup in case there is any mishandling between the police department, the collection agency, and the credit bureau.

Thank you very much for the quick reply.

Re: Paying a collection

I had a situation like yours... Once I payed it I disputed it with the CA and since it was payed and could not be verified they deleted it. Mostly likely if it's a parking ticket it can't be too much and the CA can't be making a lot of money off it anyway. Hope it helps...

Re: Paying a collection

keith, if the P.D. did not sell the account to a collection agency, then I suggest you call the P.D. and try and GW(GoodWill) it. Have the P.D. contact ca and instruct them to delete the derog from your cr.

In my experience they will not delete a baddie from your CR, just because you ask for it. They are under no obligation to do so, except if they were in error to begin with. And often that is difficult to prove.
