Payment Refused by Doctor??

Two weeks ago I received a bill from a doctor from 2004 for $50.  All the bill said was "Bal  -   $50".  I called and the office manager said it was a charge for the doctor calling in a prescription for me.  I asked for the doctor to call me back himself to verify this.  He did and stated that since his malpractice insurance went up from $40k to $70k that he was advised to start charging for calling in prescriptions.  I asked him if he had nurses and he said yes.  I then explained to him that most doctors have the nurses call in the prescriptions and he said that if he did that then he would not be able to charge for it.  I told him how ridiculous and unethical I thought it was and he hung up on me.  To keep these idiots from putting this on my credit report I sent a check to them along with a letter telling how this was insane.   I sent it return receipt.  That was a week ago.  I checked with USPS online and it says that the letter was "undeliverable as addressed".  I have not received the green card or the letter back.

Anyone have any ideas of why I have not received either back?  I'm going to call USPS on Monday but shouldn't I have received it back if it was undeliverable?

Re: Payment Refused by Doctor??

From my own experience it takes it twice as long to come back as it does to get there.

Maybe they don't accept CMRRR.

Can always send UPS, signature required. They probably wouldn't think nothing of this and sign for it.

Re: Payment Refused by Doctor??

I would try calling the office, confirming the address, and telling them you are sending the letter with payment.

CMRRR is nice, but remember, if you're paying by check you'll have the canceled check as proof you made the payment.

Re: Payment Refused by Doctor??

Dr. usually never report...they assign it to a CA.

I have never heard of a Dr. charging just to call in an RX.  I would file complaints with the state ags office, The state licenseing office and the medical ass.    I would also find another Dr.

And don't forget the BBB     I would send letters to every office that I could think of!

Re: Payment Refused by Doctor??

Once you've paid you can sue him in small claims. He'll have to take time off work or pay an employee to come. Even if you don't win he should end up being embarrassed. But once he's deposited your check request it back-then sue.
