Personal loans please help

Could you please tell me where I could get personal loans besides credit unions and banks? I'm looking to apply for personal loans but no banks or credit unions. Anything out there besides lendingclub and springleaf?

Re: Personal loans please help

Hey bogoss83!

I hesitate to recommend anything like this but there should be at least a couple of "personal finance" companies in your immediate area.  Google- "finance companies" in my area and it should give you a list to start with...

Is there a reason you want to stay away from banks and CUs?  They are the best places to look- CUs being my first choice.

I'm asking the mods to move this to another forum that may better help you instead of the credit card forum. Smiley Happy

I hope this helps you.

You could try prosper, it's similar to lending club.

going with a personal finance company will not save you any money. rates with lenders like springleaf and one main financial are obscenely high.

Good credit but bad chexsystems record keeping me from joining credit unions or banks. Have an account w Penfed and Bank of america and keeping them in good standing

Re: Personal loans please help

There are threads on this forum that indicate that a consumer finance company loan is a negative for scoring purposes.

Have you considered the angle where you join a CU with savings + CC, and bypass the Chexsystems check because you don't apply for checking?

The CCs from CUs tend to be free of fees, and thus BTs and cash advances can be made to function like a personal loan, without the overhead.  The same would be true of an LOC.

Re: Personal loans please help

Please tell me which credit union would allow me to open a savings and bypass chexsystems? cus i tried Alliant, DCU, Logix, and many others and all denied me for chexsystems (attempting to apply for savings only)

Re: Personal loans please help

You said that you're a Penfed member.  What about an LOC with them?

What about Alliant?  You said that your application was pending, and their web site mentions Chexsystems explicitly.  Did that go through?

Do you qualify for NFCU or USAA?

It might be helpful to know what city you live in, in case someone could offer some specific suggestions.

Re: Personal loans please help

NFCU froze me last year and stopped picking up the phone. They asked me to verify eligibility for membership and i did. They then would transfer me to the security lady in charge of my case but would never pick up the phone. Still calling them since August! Penfed i already have a loan, i doubt they would give me a LOC on top of that, (LOAN of 10k) back in July of 2013 and only 1k of it has been paid so farl. I live in Washington DC. USAA tells me im not eligible for credit products. Alliant sent me an email today saying i was on chex and therefore cant be a member.

Re: Personal loans please help

One Google search that may be useful is this one:

   credit unions second chance checking

Several examples of CUs that explicitly mention second chance accounts, and that are open to everyone, include Andrews FCU, New England FCU, and Velocity CU.

Andrews FCU is in your neck of the woods, and has some interesting CC products.  There are others that you can join remotely, by paying to join a qualifying association.

Another example of a local bank with second chance accounts is Wood Forest.

These types of accounts vary in what sorts of Chex issues they're willing to deal with, so I would suggest calling or emailing them first to find out the details.
