Please Help!!! Direct Student Loans

I need all the help I can get.  I just pulled my TU CR and the Direct Student loan servicing center. (Federal student loan) reported me 60 and 90 day lates several times. All of the lates are correct.  Is there any hope with me getting these removed??  I have paid them on time for a year now.  This would really improve my credit score. If you have an experience to share..... Please share it.  I need all the forum advice I can get.

Thanks

Whatyever you do DO NOT DISPUTE them.  Give them a call and let them know your situation. Stressing that you have paid on time for a year.  It may work, it may not.  However should you dispute them, you may find that there are actually more lates than being reported and they may update to all three bureaus.  That's what happened in my case when I thought they were supposedly deferred and only showing lates on one bureau.

Re: Please Help!!! Direct Student Loans

gw is always good idea and approach.    if u dont have much left to pay, then pay it off and contact them, and they may be willing to remove the lates.  when i pd my dl off i notice i had 1 late. i never should had that(when i was unable to pay it went into deferment or forbearce) anyway i contact them and they removed it.(this was some yrs bac, but i have read many success story regarding sl on here)  i still think i have the name and num of who ever contacted... gl

Federal Backed Student Loans are required by the Higher Education Act to be reported correctly.

Re: Please Help!!! Direct Student Loans

I have a Direct Loan and had a spot of trouble in the past. It really depends who you speak to and how you go about it. I would say call the customer service center and speak with a live person. My situation was that I had a 30 late or two and was getting a house. I explained to them that the LATE might stand in the way of getting the house at a good rate or a terrible one - I think most people can sympathize with that a whole lot more than an impersonal GW letter. It worked for me..... Good luck to you !

Re: Please Help!!! Direct Student Loans

I had the same situation with them. There was one late on my CR from 2/2002. It was due in part to my request for forbearance being granted after the due date. However, I called recently and spoke with a CSR who told me to fax over the information and she'd have it removed, especially since that account had been closed for some years and I had refinanced/consolidated it with a new loan which has never been paid late. I got some garbage response that they needed more information that was already supplied to them.

Needless to say, I called and got 8 different reasons for why they wouldn't do it. I told them they had already agreed to do so. The guy wouldn't budge and told me to "not shoot the messenger." I asked to speak to a supervisor (the one telling him what to say) who was flat out nasty and for no reason. I took but so much of her attitude until I just snapped and let her know she had screwed the wrong woman. I also let her know she had not heard the last of me. In all my years of dealing with them (13) and because of a mishap with my forbearance request, they could not delete one late payment from my CRs. I was ANGRY!

Lo and behold, I check my reports a week later and the late was updated to paid on time. Why they put me through all that nonsense, I cannot tell you. But I was not going to back down. Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful that they put it in satisfactory standing, I just don't like how I was treated.
