Please Help So confusing

I'm so confused. I looked at my credit report, and the same recreational vehicle is on the report three different times. In the past (5 years ago) I was late a lot. Two of the reports show very bad, and the third shows excellent. Should I dispute the two older ones? They all show different companies reporting. Also, I am trying to buy a house, so if I dispute it, will it hurt me when they pull my credit for a mortgage. Any help would be appreciated.

While dupe accounts are certainly disputable, you'd want to figure out who is who first. Removing old OC accounts, even if reporting bad, can drop your score.

Would you mind listing who is reporting, and howit is reporting it (e.g. list out lates, balance, etc.)?

Is the vehicle paid for?

Re: Please Help So confusing

Hi, Thank you so much for responding. This was a travel trailer that my ex and I bought together in 2001. He has taken over payments for the last 4 years or so. In the beginning, we were always late, but now it shows good. Here are the accounts:

Palisades- opened Feb 2007, last activity, Nov 2002 10,523.00 payment amount 0- This account shows bad on report

Amercaninv- Opened Sept 2001, last act- Aug 2003 Pay amount 267.00. Balance shows not reports, but largest past balance is 15,791

sst/medbk- opened sept 2001, last reported april 2009- pays as agreed. pay amount 270.00 bal- 10,338.00. This account shows no lates. Thanks again for any help. I feel overwhelmed with all this. I am afraid this will ruin my chance to buy a house. Thanks again, Laura

Who are the payments being made to?

It isn't as bad as you think. Very fixable.

Re: Please Help So confusing

It was American General, I believe, but my ex has been making the payments for the last 4 or 5 years, so I am not sure if that has changed. I have their number somewhere.  I think that sst/medbk is the most recent showing.

Re: Please Help So confusing

I'm assuming American General is "Americaninv". It appears that they sold it to "SST/medbk" because American reported no balance and by your description is a good looking account. It incorrectly lists a payment amount of $237 which doesn't hurt the score any, but could impact what a lender would see when calculating DTI. IMO, I'd ignore it and explain at loan time what the situation is. They'd probably catch it anyway if it isn't showing a balance. This account isn't bad and helps your AAoA.

"SST/medbk" is a puzzler. My DW had an account with the Aspire CC and was listed as "SST/CB&T". The CB&T was Columbus Bank and Trust. There are other accounts out there (well, not any more; they are going belly up) that start w/ SST/xxxxx or whatever. If you search in here you'll find other examples with the same bank. It could be that American General sold the account to this lender. Obviously a payment was reported last month since it updated last month. I'd keep an eye on it to make sure the payments are being made. So as long as it isn't reported anywhere in any adverse section of your CRs, I'd leave it.

Finally, Palisades is a CA. This is hurting your score. Looks like they started collecting 2/2007. If there is any way to confirm that the payments aren't going to these guys, then do so. It could be that they are receiving the payment and are updating monthly w/ the OC. I suspect that your ex is paying the CA. You can't do anything about this if this is the case.
