Hello All,
You have all been very helpful in the past and have been doing pretty well rebuilding my credit. It's still a work in progress but it gets better and better every month.
ANYWAYS.
I received a call today from an unknown caller they did leave a voicemail with a number 866-395-1940. I listend to the voicemail and it is apparently from a debt collector but they leave no identifiable information other than the above named number along with some legal gobbledygook which was meaningless.
Against my gut instinct, I called them back and again, no disclosures of debt collection. I get to one lady who verifies a couple pieces of information and then transfers me to their "legal department" and another lady pics up. Again, none of the standard debt collection disclosures.
Legal department lady says that I have a pay-day loan through cash net. Once upon a time long ago, I did and it was a bad time. Long story short she says that I owe like $8000 that has accrued with 700% interest, that I defaulted on the loan, and that they are looking at coming after me for grand larceny.
Needless to say lots of major red flags. They identified a former employer and a vehicle that I no longer own. I did not confirm or deny any of this. They did ask if I wished to dispute. I said that I did and they hung up.
I am a digital packrat. I remember a call from late November/December 2018. Where I remember I reached out to a debt collector regarding this matter. They settled, I luckily have the settlement letter still and went to check my bank account statements, but they have been archived from that time to confirm that they were paid. I believe that they were paid, but still wanted to make sure.
The larceny bit is what is throwing this off completely and I know that the unscrupulous debt collectors will threaten to have you arrested etc.
Thanks in advance and thoughts?

First and foremost, I am not a lawyer but my response is grand larceny my *ss.
Having a debt that has accrued 700% interest is ludacrous.
And it sounds like you have already settled this debt but perhaps it is still being carried by some other CA or there is faulty records of previous payment if it is still the same CA.
Does this debt appear on your credit report? In addition to checking your payment history I would confirm whether it is showing up across any of the CRAs.
For peace of mind, if you are unable to validate that the item is already paid, I would try to determine the age of the debt and whether it is passed the statute of limitations for your state.
Sounds like it probably is past SOL.
