Pulling your own scores often...?

General question...

I see a lot of people with sig's showing new scores from TU and EQ every couple of months, weeks.. and some even every two to three days...

Am I missing some kind of service through MyFico that I should know about?  I am well aware that there are discount codes out there for scores, but you can't possibly be paying $10 a score every two days while trying to rebuild your credit, are you???

I know I have another service that provide my EX fico unlimited (I pull a new one just about everyday), but MyFico always wants me to buy new reports to get a new score, unless I get a score change alert from ScoreWatch.

What am I missing?

Thanks,

-Justin

Nothing! --we just have a lot of obsessive score-pullers. Smiley Very Happy

I did the same back when my reports were constantly changing, partly out of curiosity to see the new scores, and partly in the endless attempt to crack some tiny part of the FICO scoring algorithm. (Mostly all that happened was that I became even more confused, lol.)

But other than the discount codes that you can Google, it's an expensive little hobby, that's for sure. I don't suppose it's any stranger than model-rocket building or fly fishing or something.

Re: Pulling your own scores often...?

What are you missing?  N-U-T-H-I-N.  There can be some legitimate reasons to know your current score if you are going to go get a mortgage or a car.  But the constant monitoring of one's score, looking for every little increase/decrease if they pay a little here, buy something there is overdoing it, imo.  There is no harm in it but why spend all the energy and become a FICO score junkie and let it take up an inordinate amount of your daily effort?  The score is dynamic and goes up and down everytime a new piece of credit info is posted so it doesn't mean much in the long term.  Credit providers are no longer just relying on the FICO score to decide who gets credit which seems lost on many junkies.  Their score goes up a bit and yet they lose credit, and then they start questioning why this is happening.  FICO score is a piece of the credit puzzle, not the be all, end all.

Re: Pulling your own scores often...?

Thanks for the reply.

I understand that completely, which is why I was asking why people would pay to see their scores so often... unless there was a way to pull them constantly without paying that price.

sample sig (not mine... name withheld):

5/16/09 TU 550 EQ 548 EX 530
6/8/09 TU 624 EQ 568 EX ???
6/16/09 TU 636 EQ 575 EX 670 (FAKO)
6/17/09 TU 636 EQ 585 EX 670 (FAKO)
6/19/09 TU 636 EQ 614 EX 670 (FAKO)

7/3/09 TU 641 EQ 640 EX ???

That's an awful lot of $$$...

Re: Pulling your own scores often...?

Alrighty.. thanks for the quick replies!

I think I am going to stick with SW, and will pull TU after any major moves or expected changes.  Fiancee and I are really working hard to do the right things for our future after some past individual mistakes, and thank god for this board!

We are up to $92k in CL now, 4 months after being stuck individually at around 20k total.  We've added PenFed, Alliant, NFCU, etc specifically based on recommendations of this board and it has done wonders for our Util and freedom to move money around with BT's for the best interest rates for long term payoff.   We'd still be stuck with BoA and Crap1 if not for all the recommendations here! (Still trying to find a way into PSECU and we'll be done)

Obviously, we done a number on our AAoA and inquiries, but well worth it for the future when we go for our mortgage!

Thanks again,

JnL

Re: Pulling your own scores often...?

i agree that credit scores aren't the end all, be all, as watchmann said...but when you are rebuilding your credit or expecting significant changes, it can be pretty important or even motivating for you to see those changes as they occur.

typically i pull my scores every month to 6 weeks.  right now i have a bunch of inquiries dropping off, & accounts aging over 1 year, so i'm watching closely for changes.  not paying for scores every day, but definitely counting the days til i can pull them again.  as the others mentioned, it can be expensive, & i don't want to be an idiot & spend all my money on fico scores instead of on bills!  Smiley Very Happy
