Question About Old Collection Account

Hi all,

Here's my situation. Looking for any advice you can give.

After recently pulling my credit report for a checkup (and having not done so really...ever *doh!*) I found that there is a collection on my report.

It's for $915, and it is from Sprint Communications....I used to work for them, and after I left the company, I got hit with a bill for wage overpayment...at the time I was fighting this with Sprint, but eventually gave up and honestly, forgot all about it. It then went to a collection agency, that still has the account.

The date it was assigned to the collection company is June 1, 2002. The date it was last active, according to my credit report, is the same: June 1, 2002.

So, as I understand it, here are my options- let me know if this is incorrect or if there is something I am missing.

1) I could do nothing on it, and it will drop off my credit report on its own in two more years

2) I could pay it, but it would then negatively impact my report because it would then be considered recent activity- eventually it would reflect more positively on my credit (is this correct?)

I have also read that I can ask the company to completely delete the listing from my credit report once paid. Is this something that has a good chance at getting accepted? And I should get something like that in writing before I make the payment, yes?

Thanks for all your help- these forums are fantastic!

Im not sure that I can help you. It sounds like 2 different issues.

# 1  wage overpay...how could that happen?
Call you state ag's office ask what you do about it (make sure that you have the paper stating overpmt)   Also ask if cell contracts are open or closed contracts. This might make a difference in your state.

KNOW your SOL

DV the CA..in it tell them that you want complete documentation including signiture. DO NOT SIGN IT. Type everything!!!! send CMRRR

Re: Question About Old Collection Account

I should have clarified in my original post, after recent research, the wage overpayment did in fact occur...I am not disputing now that I owe this money, I am trying to figure out the best way to get this collection removed with minimal impact.

OK...CRTP does not change!

Im not sure because this is overpmt. You could try sending PFD for the full amount. CMRRR  and wait for an answer.

Still call AGs office & see what your rights are. I have never heard of over payment of wages.

Maybe someone else in here can help.
