Question about issuers reporting of Statement balance

my discover account reported a $0 balance at closing on the 3rd of september.

i then ran up a $354 balance a few days after the $0 balance close.

experian showed a $0 balance. checked transunion a few days ago - and it shows a $354 balance.

whats that about? i thought that the issuer reports the balance once a month at statement close date.

why is transunion picking up the balance from a few days after close?

thank you!

Re: Question about issuers reporting of Statement balance

you know what it might be

now that i consider it further

had new card sent out after some fraud on original card

perhaps that accounts for the double reporting to the bureaus this month

$354 didn't happen to be the previous month's balance did it? I was thinking maybe TU just hadn't updated yet.

I did once have Discover report my statement balance plus pending charges. I checked even after I got my 3B report and those charges still showed pending on the Discover site and my statement balance was still what I thought it was, but the statement balance was not what was reported to the bureaus. People here assured me that was a glitch, and it hasn't happened again. But it was the same across all three bureaus.

Re: Question about issuers reporting of Statement balance

no the $354 in charges wasnt the previous month balance

i made those charges current month - 3 days after current month statement cut

so youre saying in your example

discover reported the statement balance -plus- the pending transactions?

Yes, they were pending before the statement cut. I was hoping they wouldn't post until after the statement cut, and not report that month. It wasn't like I made the charges a few days after like you say you did. I made the charges before, but was counting on Disco to be slow to post them as they usually are.

Discover will report every time card needs to be replaced other than expiration (lost, fraud etc). If card number changes, they will report.

They also report when AU is added/removed.

It's always been like that
