Question about late payment derogatory

I searched the forums and don't find the answer to this.  I'm applying for a mortgage probably next week (going FHA).  My credit scores are in the mid to high 600s, depending on the CRA.

The only fairly recent late payment I have on file is a 2007 student loan late.  I moved suddenly after son's father's death, and thought it was still in forbearance, and was ignoring the monthly statements in the overwhelmance of getting settled in a new town and cleaning up his affairs, and then suddenly whoops I was 90 days late without realizing it.

Its listed on my credit report as a 60 day late and a 90 day late. Should it be on there twice? I guess techincally they were separate payments that were late.  I think it would look so much better as ONE late instead of two.

Thank you in advance Smiley Happy This forum has been so helpful to me.

Re: Question about late payment derogatory

The 90 and 60 are both reporting correctly. Besides that, the 60 is being overwhelmed by the 90, so that's not even a factor as long as the 90 is present.

Re: Question about late payment derogatory

Thanks Byrdman...hopefully that 2007 90 day late won't keep me from FHA approval....it's about 16 months old right now.....and my ficos are in the mid-high 600s.

I'm going to make sure the LO knows what happened as well, and will happily write any letters she asks for.

Re: Question about late payment derogatory

GL, I am sending good thoughts your way. I am no FHA expert, by any stretch of the imagination, but I think that they look for no lates in the past 12 months, so you should be okay. Good call, doing whatever they need to be approved. You should be fine with your scores.
