Question about "Account Status" line

Quick question. I have several accounts that are on my credit report that I noticed something kind of odd about. I paid them off in full and requested they be closed. In the "Description" box it reflects that the account were paid in full and closed by me, but in the "Account Status" box is says the "Account is Open." Is this hurting me at all to have like 7 accounts with a $0 balance that are actually closed, but the "Account Status" says that it's open? If so, is there a letter I need to write to the companies or should I just call them to get this updated?

Including these seven accounts, how many total accounts do you have on your credit reports? Please list the account type (CC, line of credit, auto and student loans, mortgages, etc.), their currrent status (opened or closed) and the CLs (if applicable) and balances.

Re: Question about "Account Status" line

Well here is my information:

I have a student loan account on my cr's and it reads as follows:

Balance $0, Current Status Unrated or bankruptcy, Past Due Amount 0, Status as of Dec, 1999, Date Opened Not Reported, Date of Last Activity Not Reported, Date Paid Out Not Reported, Date Closed Dec, 1999, Acct XXXX, Loan Type Student Loan, Credit Limit Not Reported, Largest past balance Not Reported, Terms 180 Monthly, Acct Type Installment Account, Account Holder Primary Borrower on Acct, Scheduled payment amount 0, Account status Account is closed. Descriptions Account closed by consumer

*please note that I have not filed bankrupt. This account was transferred from one insitution to another, where I made the payments on time for 2 years, then it was transfered to US Bank, where I am currently make my last 12 payments.

Should I write a letter to the CRA's to have it removed because it is so old? Why didn't it fall off automatically, it's been 7 years?

Thanks!

Re: Question about "Account Status" line

Sorry I also have a store account that had an orignal balance of $199, I paid it off, back in 2004. It shows the following:

Current balance 0, Status Not reported, Date assigned March 2006, Date report Oct 2006, Date last active Not Reported, Date Paid April 2004, Date closed April 2004, Type of credit/Pymnt status/Largest balance/Amount past due/ Account descriptions-Not Reported.

Now this one is a collection account but shouldn't it report Paid In Full somewhere?
I have three others like this one.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Re: Question about "Account Status" line

One final question I swear Smiley Tongue

I have a store credit card, it has been transfered to another lender, I am assuming that it is because the store was purchased by another lender, I tore up the card long ago, I was young then & thought this would take care of it but I could very well have a balance on the card, I haven't heard anything from anyone about it.

Anyhoo - It is showing that I was never late, the last time it was reported on was in July of 04. Not last payment date or closed date, loan type is revolving charge, credit limit $320, Account status inactive.
Descriptions - Transferred to/purchased by another lender, No contact information provided by experian and experian is the only one it shows up on.

What can I do about this one?

Re: Question about "Account Status" line

If it's an account in good standing, it can be on your CRs for 10 years.  Then it only helps you.  If it's a negative account, dispute as too old to report.  Your status for your negatives doesn't really hurt you, but you can dispute to have the CRAs show it as paid in full for the status.  Just watch what date they update the account to.
