Question regarding OC

Here's another question...

I called the OC to confirm the amount of a past due dental bill.  I was advise the company name has changed, but they were able to confirm the amount owed. They asked that payment be submitted to directly to their office with no mention of the CA showing on my CR.  The account is scheduled to fall off CR on 05/09.  Is it possible the CA just bought junk debt.  The amount is $104.04.  Would you all suggest having the CA DV first rather than pay the 104.04? Considering will be removed from CR next year.

I appreciate all the advise and much needed help this forum has given me.Smiley Happy

Re: Question regarding OC

sandy, is the debt really yours? If it is, then the next step is to determine who you should negotiate with....the OC or the CA.

It sounds like the OC still owns the account. If that's the case, I'd bypass the CA completely and negotiate only with the OC. Instruct them that for such a small balance, you'd be willing to pay in full with a cashier's check immediately, IF and ONLY if, they in turn will instruct the CA to delete all derogatory information about the account from your credit file/files.

If they agree, also stipulate that you will exchange that cashier's check for a duplicate original of the letter, from the OC instructing the CA to delete the derrog from your account.

But that's just what I've done in the past and was successful in having 3 collections removed, using this tactic.

I'm sure others will chime in shortly offering their opinion as to best course of action.

Good luck to you. Smiley Happy

Re: Question regarding OC

Hi Sylvia,

The account is my daughter's, but she is a minor so it appears on my hubby's CR.

Thanks for your advise.
