RJM Acquisitions -- Question and request for advice

Hi all,

I just received a letter from RJM Acquisions stating that they bought an account from First USA Bank.
I remember paying the account in full to First USA, but that was back in the 90's, and I don't have any records that prove that I did.

There is nothin on my Credit Reports that reflects this. I've looked at the oldest copy of my credit report which is two years old and there is nothing from either First USA or RJM on there.

My question is, is it better to not respond and ignore this since I believe it is past SOL or DV with RJM?

Thanks.

Re: RJM Acquisitions -- Question and request for advice

Make sure you are out of SOL. What is it in your state? Usually the best bet in a situation like this is to DV. They could just be trolling for old accounts, but if you send a good strong DV then they can't report and they likely won't validate because its so old. Another option is to contact First USA and see what their records show. If you find that you owe, see if you can pay them and then if RJM tries to collect you can tell them to bugger off. You want to be in info gathering mode right now. Is the amount something you can pay if worst came to worst?

If you are positive that this is past SOL or CRTP....I would DV them.....also keep checking your CR for ings or collections.

If past CRTP and they report to any CRA  you can sue for both!

Re: RJM Acquisitions -- Question and request for advice

Advice from others is good.

I just wanted to offer info about my dealings with RJM Acquisitions... I had two collections from them on my CR. Before I found myFICO, I just called them up and asked them about them and paid them over the phone. They were very polite and even deleted the TL without me asking them to. Good luck!

CRTP? What is that?

Forgot to add. As far as I can tell, this hasn't been reported for two years. I don't want to stir anything up with the CRAs if I can help it.

PPS. Smiley Happy I can pay the entire amount, but I'm 95% sure that it was paid years ago. The more I think about this, the more confused I get why this is popping up now.

Re: RJM Acquisitions -- Question and request for advice

I had an account with them too, and also, before knowing any better, I called, and accepted their terms of 1/2 off what I owed for payment in full. I asked if I paid it would they delete it from the bureaus. They did.

Couple of weeks later, I get another letter from them wanting to collect on an account that had came off my report about 3 years ago. I called them and told them they had no right to even try to collect on that account as it was over 10 years old. They said "My bad, we'll update this in our system". I think once they have you pay one thing, they go looking for stuff that they can't even collect on anymore. I just happened to have a copy of an old credit report from 5 years ago, and I knew that account was off my reports.

For a CA, they do seem rather well to work with compared to some. Again, this is just my dealings with them before I found this forum. Now I have to try to restrain myself from picking the phone up when I get a letter from anyone saying I owe themSmiley Very Happy

Re: RJM Acquisitions -- Question and request for advice

If they bought the debt (as they claim) calling FirstUSA does no good.

DV them (it is a federally protected right and should have been included in their paperwork that you have a right to validation).  In this case I would use a STRONG DV letter since you believe it is past CRTP and that you paid the bank in full.

DVing a CA can only be a problem if you are within SOL and can't afford to pay (they may sue you).

Re: RJM Acquisitions -- Question and request for advice

I am watching the feedback for this one.  RJM just purchased a debt from Orchard Bank which they state is mine. I did send them a letter asking to show proof and at that time purchased a credit report w/score from myFICO. I talked to representative on the phone, advised not my debt, have had problems with identity theft before, etc... She said ok sounds like its not yours. Next thing I know, I have a summons for court and am being sued for the debt. The debt is not mine and would have been outside the SOL in Jan 08. They filed lawsuit in November 07. Not sure what to do or what kind of info they would have (if any) to try and make me pay. Currently looking for police reports showing where my wallet was stolen back in 98-2000. I dont want to be forced to pay for something thati s not mine. I currently have a CC with Orchard that I have been paying on time for over 3 years. If anyone can help with my situation too it would be helpful.

Anyway, back to the original poster, they will sue.

Thanks for the replies all.

I think that I'll DV RJM in the next couple of days. Still working the wording on the letter right now.

I've tried to find a good number to FirstUSA, but I can't seem to get through to a. A CSR who is a native speaker of english ( I don't speak Hindi)  b. Anyone who can tell me about this account since it is so old.
