Received a NOTICE OF INTENT TO SUE, PLEASE HELP!!

Hello and good morning I had an old cell phone bill that i didn't pay because at that time i was ill and got behind on a lot of bills. This was about 5 years ago and now i just got a letter in the mail from WOLPOFF & ABRAMSON, LLP debt collection attorneys stating that i am going to get sued. What should i do? should i ingore it? or call them and try to set up a monthly payment plan? I desperately need some guidance since i cannot afford to hire an attorney. (amount owed: $1,033) Thanks!

Attorney's? Call them ASAP. They will obtain a judgement against you - which is the last thing you want on your credit report. Negotiate with them - you might be surprised to see how willing they are to settle on an amount. If you own $1,033, I would say that I might be able to pay $600, but I can only do about $100 a month - or whatever you feel you can handle.

Point is - call them. Do not ignore them. And negotiate. And don't forget to add that when you have satisfied this, you will expect them to delete any and all references to this account from your credit reports.

Did you dispute the bill with them? I sent that same company a dv letter, and they removed it from my file, and I haven't heard another word since then from them.
